I am not blogging this month
This is a sabbath month for my blogging .. SORRY … I don’t think I will be blogging till Oct 19, 2007. One complete month of sabbath, I wanted to take a break for
- More books, more stories, more chats, more orkut, more emails.
- More phone calls, more traveling, more driving.
- I haven’t read a blog post from 17 sep from my blog reader account only source of info is eco times for 30 mins.
I will be back with a special story, “I met with an accident”, Don’t miss this one, I am yet to start it.
My 7th 21st Bday was the busiest so far
I have all reasons to push myself for this post at 1 am though I am feeling a little sleeping (but I am feeling much better now). Keeping it short with some images:

Scene #4 of Bday: Why am I feeling so successful … I managed to undo scene 3 here.

Scene #3: Meine sab ko kitne pyar se lagya tha (sorry light problem, all are mobi pics).. Prabhat ne puri gardhan me laga di .. ears, eyes kuch nahi choda … still I can smell the cake .. it took me some good minutes to clean this up but was fun except the color … what color .. see scene 1

Scene #2: Sab kitne chup chap hai .. so nice … they were not so nice in scene # 3 …. Oh the color… see scene #1 for colorful view

Scene #1 Who bought this cake ???? with such hard colors … the red color cream was put on my head … some green color here and there … red color was really really really hard .. had to wash many times … now you know why I was feeling so successful at scene #4
Overall it was such a great great day ……………
Thanks to every one
Slept late at 1:30 after some calls. There was no one present for Bday bumps but I felt as if it was outsourced to Behala mosquitoes and they were doing there work wonderfully when I was on phone. Slept really deep (don’t even remember a single dream or mosquito bumps), got up when I got a call at 7:30 (I got to know her through this blog only, blogging is good I guess), this was a surprise call, heard her voice for the first time (Thanks, it was so nice of you). Mom, dad were happy as I got a good sleep. Some calls/mails/smses/scraps kept me smiling … Driver ji also gifted some flowers and cards (so nice of him) … and reached office very late … Got permission to use orkut at office … calls/mails/smses/scraps went on through out the day … then office party … and while coming back dropped at Sheere -Punjab for some diet-tandoori chicken .. at home dad bought some special fruit cake .. calls from cousins/relatives … India winning in style (uttapa/sachin kya khela hai) … End of the day I am burping and smiling .. thanks for making this day so wonderful … God bless all. Good night!
Thank You God

Do ladies talk more?
As a marketer we were always taught that ladies talk more and should be targeted for major viral marketing campaigns. According to the stats: “A woman uses about 20,000 words per day while a man uses about 7,000“.
Mark Liberman strongly disagrees with the stats. (It also contains the snippet of the above referred book which talks a lot about (fe)male brain, like fight-talks-look-sex-phone-etc, you may need it anytime.)

Do ladies talk more? |
What do you say?
As someone (it has to be one and only one, Sidhu) rightly said, “Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital“. Here is a conversation between a husband and his own wife.
Let’s take it A husband looking through the paper came upon a study that said women use more words than men.
Excited to prove to his wife that he had been right all along when he accused her of talking too much, he showed her the study results. It read “Men use about 15,000 words per day, but women use 30,000″.
The wife thought for a while, then finally she said to her husband “It’s because we have to repeat everything we say.”
The husband said “What?”
More funny (and good) topics can be found at my other blog. (1. How do you guess the sex of a bird? 2. What a woman really wants????, enjoy 3. Do You Have Male Or Female Mind? Easy find)
According to latest research, During a 17-hour day Men speak just as many words (about 15,669) as the women do (16,215).
Can orkut scrapbooks be used for some more research?
What is your opinion about it?
How many friends do you have?
Happy Friendship day! Am I late for it? I guess no. Friendship cards, friendship shayerri, stolen messages, common message, smses and emails. Oops! blog posts as well. Everything is happening on the F day. Thats so great and here is my post for THE day.
![]() |
How many friends do you have? One, two, three, …. |
Do you remember one of the most frequently asked childhood question, “Johny Johny(change it with your name for personalization), how many friends do you have?” and then you started counting on your fingers, one - Tommy, two - harry, four - popy and ……Also jane and pinky … uncle, I have so many friends!
Get into the time machine and ask this question at different phases of your life, when you were not so moma’s kid, when you were not so young, when you were really young and now when you want to stay young. What would have been your answer?
In past had problems in counting friends? Don’t worry if you haven’t counted your friends in past, here is a way to do it (and once again it is by Google):

Wow, it is even arranged further like best friend and so. Great, not bad at all. I think undoubtedly orkut can be voted as the best friendship tool for the era. Does the count matters? Does the intensity matters? Hey, I don’t know, neither did I ever bought a friendship barometer to measure the intensity nor did I ever borrow an abacus for the count. I have some wonderful friends and I thank life for being so kind to me. Life is so short and don’t bother to categorize, count or measure friendship. Don’t define friendship and let it happen its own way with:
- One unplanned smile.
- One eye accident.
- One unwanted fight.
- Many years of silence.
- ………….
Life is so short, so be happy with undefined friends and live friendship to its fullest. To be a friend a mine ignore all the above para with one sentence “Be yourself, Be imperfect for a perfect friendship“.
Happy friendship day, happy friendship week and happy friendship year!
Girl: Aji you are hot
This Tuesday was just another day but wore formals (not jeans) after really long. With a light blue shirt and a black trouser I left the office, for a change without spending one hour at TT court. Even after having a class on debt, credit, insurance, mortgage and other financial topics for over 6 hrs I was feeing ok.
While back home a beautiful girl (her eyes had it all) sitting next to me started talking to me. Here is a part of the conversation :-

- Girl: Are you on orkut?
- Me: Yes, how did you guess?
- Girl: You holding few online articles and I am smart at guessing (inside: almost everyone is on orkut ha ha).
- Me: You are very smart (did I do a course on featherbedding)
- Girl: For sometime I was experiencing a special feeling sitting next to you (Her eyes were as innocent as one can get)
- Me: (me blushing, wanted to say, “This generally happens”) oh really!
- Girl: You are hot!
- Me: (blushing to the skies) hmm … (falling short of words, wanted to do an instant neologism)
- Girl: Looks like you have fever, your body temperature is quite high.
- Me: (Fallen off world trade center) Yes generally I have, I mean, I think I developing, I am developing a good fever, thanks.
Oh sorry for this bad way (was it creative?) of telling you that “I AM HAVING HIGH FEVER FOR LAST 2 DAYS” (this is a repercussion of high fever and no tasks, suffer with me, he he) . Sorry, if I am not replying all the mails, if I have canceled the interviews and rescheduled tasks. Doctor recommended a complete 4 days of REST (by charging a 1k fees for one approved/tested sentence, “You are OK”). According to Maslow’s REST is a basic need but surely much forgotten one. Hoping to join back tomorrow.
Do comment if you have read till the end. I will appreciate your creative comments for this not so uncreative post.
Update: Also read the comments they are quite interesting, I never expected such a response.
Don’t like my blog? Do this then
I am off today. Monday and off? Yes, we had interviews and server audits for last 4 weeks so could not get an off. Taking a full time off, Watching videos (I just downloaded a 1 Giga of video today from ted.com), listening songs but sorry no eating (taking and giving rest). What do you do to the sites you don’t like? Ignore? Here is another option.
Here is what you can do to the sites you don’t like [Click here to do it to My Blog]. May be the political parties can do the same to Orkut.
Enjoy Monday, I am going for another sleep (already had 8 hrs of sleep today, 1:30 am to 9:30 am), you can feel jealous I am generally gifted (thats what people say), I can sleep for hours and hours. God bless.
Orkut Banned in India
“Orkut Banned in India” - Will this ever become a real headline? It can happen as various political groups are preparing a move to make it happen. In India power still has power and political parties are synonyms for power but surprisingly we still are the largest democracy. Orkut has been under contriversies for various reasons. My previous post lists some of it http://www.idealwebtools.com/blog/orkut-scams/.
Today while going through Times Now I ran across their major coverage, “Controversy over Orkut ban“. They were juicing the popularity of Orkut by taking live opinions from various parts of India (In Kolkata they were at Flury). The news says,
The popular internet networking site Orkut was recently under attack by Shiv Sena workers, who went on a rampage after disparaging remarks made against Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray & Marathi icon Shivaji were posted on the site. The Sainiks vandalised a cyber cafe in Thane, Mumbai and demanded a ban on Orkut because of the remarks posted on one of its forums, essentially group blogs that allow people to write and post their views on any topic - without censors.
Here is my take on the controversial issue :-
- Orkut is not a site, it is a culture or a concept. Even if someone bans the major instance of Orkut concept, orkut.com, there will born another instance with equal power.
- Orkut concept is blended with social web (web 2.0) and is inseparable. To ban Orkut concept, one will have to ban social web.
- Is there any communication model that doesn’t carry cons. Isn’t mobile phone helping terrorists?
- “The Sainiks vandalised a cyber cafe in Thane”????? What did the cyber cafe guy do? Who will repay his losses? Even after this you expect people to love you not hate? People reserve the rights to love or hate anyone. If there are hate groups then there are bigger love groups as well, see yourself http://www.orkut.com/UniversalSearch.aspx?q=Bal+Thackeray&pno=1&searchFor=C or http://www.orkut.com/UniversalSearch.aspx?q=Shivaji+&pno=1&searchFor=C but still people reserve the right to express their opinion. There is a well saying, “Greatest loved elements are highly hated too”.
- Isn’t social web empowering the true government, the people? More that the cons I see pros. Now people are THE power.
How to tackle it?
- Stop vandalizing wrong people. If this carries on then much connected society can show its true power too, remember the blogspot ban.
- At a proactive level setup a committee to look at the bigger picture, which can keep the web clean to the possible extent. Creating awareness and better online laws are needed.
- At a reactive level ask Orkut to ban the group
- Look at the 100 positive things about Orkut and forget about one or two, that happens everywhere :), Enjoy Orkut.
Similar Ban proposals for various other social web
- Youtube could be banned in India due to a supposedly offensive video of Mahatma Gandhi doing a Pole dance and other ungandhi like antics. The video features a comedy skit by a Hawaii-based Non-Resident Indian, Gautham Prasad, who has now apologized to the people offended by the video.
- Blogs banned in India over misuse, later rectified.
What is your take on it?

Industry awareness campagins costs but helps
Indian Web companies are growing or may be Indian companies have started respecting web for its reach and power. Not only Indian companies but all Indian organizations. I just wrote a letter to one of the Christian organization head quarters on web reach. In my previous post I had mention about the alpha phase of Indian web, everyone wants to experience the true web power. It looks easy, attractive and powerful but not till you experience it that way. I knew this phase was to come (in India) and thanks to all who spent plenty on industrial awareness.
What is industrial awareness?
We Indians never thought that we could get a life partner through web (thanks to shaadi.com for the industrial awareness). We never thought of getting a job though web till naukri.com made it a visible reality. It took some time and thanks to naukri.com for having the patience and the will to spend extra on industrial awareness. Hey, orkut knows more about my batchmates than I do, I never thought of such an option. Selling, buying, communicating and everything is now possible through web. Thanks to all the advertisements and extra pain taken by the companies in doing industrial awareness. (Also you can thank me for industrial awareness. I talk about web industry before every pre-placement talks) It costs a lot but it certainly helps in getting the early lead and to become the synonym for the industry (like Google is for search or xerox is for photocopy). Branding for web-industry is not an asset but THE asset and early birds can go all the way to the top as THE BRAND.
Offline example of Industrial awareness
One of the best example I can remember is from the Sportswear industry. During 1995-96 when the global sports majors entered the Indian market, they spent a lot of money on advertisement. Most of the money was spent on industrial awareness, a shoe for jogging, a shoe for basketball and so on (Though many global winners became local losers in India). There was no visible sports wear market but with industrial awareness campaigns it became a need. Everyone then started to desire and own a paid of sports shoe. Recent introduction of after-bath products are other examples (Livon, Marino, after-bath lotion ..).
Does Industrial awareness helps?
In my opinion half of the money spent by naukri.com was utilized for industrial awareness. Web being in alpha phase in India might have cost leaders even more than half of their marketing budget. I have heard people unsuccessfully explaining web illiterate about getting a job through web. Without an industrial awareness companies in the industry will have no relevance either. Now there are plenty of job portals targeting Indian market but I am sure people consider naukri.com as the best and only brand (yet, Also job portals are a different market where a customer, the job seeker, never gains anything in being loyal, surfers uses more than one portal to get a better reach). Becoming the only brand is the only advantage of Industrial awareness.
How to send .exe files through gmail
I wanted to pass VNC setup file to my friend as I wanted to show him few things remotely. I was not able to send it through gmail due to gmail security issues (Gmail is very secure and very powerful, see how I handle over 100 mails a day with Google tricks). Then I zipped it and tried but the same message came back.
So how can we send it then? It is very easy when you know else it is as tough as running Bill Gates OS. Here is the simple trick
Follow the steps for a smooth sail
- Sender End: Rename the file to some other extension. I renamed it to UltraVNC-Setup.removeit-exe-removeit
- Receiver end: Just rename it by removing removeit parts. Very simple but very helpful.
Take care and read my other posts on gmail, orkut and various HR and technical issues.
