    Dear Sir,

this is regarding change of industry (currently after my MBA from a top 50 MBA institute I am in sales),

    one option is web marketing

but i've got few questions about the Job description

when I asked one of our seniors he gave me following options in online marketing, the only options according to him-

Online marketing can mean 2 things.

    1. Sales of online advertising and campaign solutions
    2. Developing online campaigns for clients

but I don't want to be in direct sales anymore I did that for last 3 years and I don't like it any more.

can you suggest kind of Job descriptions in web marketing

that are available in Indian companies

    regards,

    Hi,

Welcome to the community. Let me explain you some of things you can do on web marketing, it is not all about sales.

Handle web marketing with care, it can become an epidemic any time.

    1. Web marketing is developing/suggesting/promoting new ideas/features/products for your website to make marketing interactive. (You remember the P==product stuff). People look for many things on web, you can help your company create such sections on the web and the promote it. Example: For a business school you can suggest them to open their symposiums (general discussions) through videos every month for general public. You can have student street surveys and make it public. This will create much better results than spending 500k Rs on TV.
    2. Bringing traffic: This is what your senior told you. Here there are many ways, organic and paid. Organic (Search engines, referrals etc etc), paid (Search Engine PPC, non-search engine PPC, ads etc)... also there are better ways of utilizing money CPA (cost per action), affiliate marketing, community building etc.... A lot is offered here.
    3. Improving conversion and usability: - May have dead websites, they even don't know what is happening on it. Based on usability standards, user behavior one can improve the sales, user experience on websites. India lacks usability experts.
    4. Much much more ... its as deep as hell

In Indian market most of the job circles around
    1) Link building (a little less paying job)
    2) SEO (Where you can the complete marketing for the client, client stays happy if they get traffic, sales and ranking) (Average to highly paid jobs)
    3) Paid campaigns (like PPC for Google Adwords and Yahoo ads) (Highly paid)
    4) Team leaders (who can manage, content team, programming team, SEO team for different projects) (Highly paid)

I hope this explains some of the concerns. Keep asking!

    "thank you for this post.

From very beginning when I came to contact with web world I knew that this is my field i.e 8 years ago but never thought of make my career out of it.

After my professional degree in Marketing I got two options
-either go with big brand name and no area of interest
-or go to my area of interest i.e. web life and no brand name

I had lot of thought and consulted with persons who were in this field already and which indicated me to chose the first option

after joining good brand name with no idea of what i'm doing i got bored with job within six months and I wanted to quit but some how i sticked to it cause i find difficulty in switching to new line with better option.

I always wanted to join web marketing line cause i easily understand its language, update myself with change and got lots of patient to spend hours in front PC.

but some doubts which always haunted me from taking my steps towards this line are-
    1) future... uncertain... linger between team leader to project managers or else...what after that..
    2) no technical background
    3) no good company in India(i know it's growing)
    4) fear of failure

but after 3 years in sales of fabrics, I disparately wanted to do something I like to do.
