What are the most important keywords?

Today morning, one of the SEO consultant called me up and asked me following question, how do one choose the most important keywords for the clients? The answer to the question looks really simple but it is not as:

• Clients have some expectation, I lost some clients because of this. I learned some biggest lessons there.
• There are some keywords with huge markets.
• There are some keywords with good market and less competition.
• There are other factors to it.

Phase 1 of important keywords

To solve this issue, we started asking the clients on their preference for the keywords. They will sometimes suggest the keywords that they feel are good and important. So keep these keywords as the highest priority as your clients will be judging you on these basis, when the keywords are a lot irrelevant and competitive, get it replaced by another keyword.

Phase 2 of important keywords

Once the client is happy with your work, you get more time to help the client. Now you can focus on the relevant keywords with less competition. Get the pages up and you will start getting some traffic. Thats one reason, you need to get the key phrase analysis done for over 2000 keyphrase with competition and market. This will ensure some good traffic really fast and then the client can support the web marketing cost using the income from this extra traffic.

Phase 3 of important keywords

Now focus on the ones with good competition and good marketing. These are generally defined as THE MAIN keywords for the site. Example: “SEO, SEM, search engine optimization words for seo companies”, “debt consolidation, debt settlement words for debt consolidation companies” and so on …. These keywords will take time to rank but you need to keep a balance between phase 2 and phase 3 keywords to get the sales moving.

Along with focusing on the keywords, focus on getting into visibility by blogging, forum participation etc to increase the link flow. Work on usability to make the users comfortable (Good for SEO too). Analyze user behavior to improve conversions.
